Need some inspiration for real romance?
Here are some stories of men making an effort to touch the heart of their wife. These stories were entries in Radio Rhema’s Marriage Week competition 2007.
Thanks to Rhema and the writers for permission to share these. Flowers by Special Delivery My most romantic memory wasn't a long romantic holiday, just a small thoughtful gesture by my husband to make me feel loved. One day after work my husband came inside and ushered our two boys then aged 5 and 2 outside to the car. They all returned a couple of minutes later. Both boys came in with big grins on their faces, bearing a small bunch of flowers each, which they both presented to me. My husband came in close behind them with an equally big grin carrying a large bunch of flowers which he also gave to me. I had three beautiful bunches of flowers from the three men in my life. It wasn't Valentine’s Day or my birthday, it wasn't even Mothers’ Day, it was just because. I will remember that till my dying day. - Tracie Time Out I think the most romantic time I have had since we've been married was 10 years ago when my husband turned up one lunchtime at my work and asked me to go out for lunch. He took me to this wonderful park by the river where he got out a well-prepared picnic basket and a red blanket [which] we used to lay down and enjoyed each other’s company for the rest of the afternoon. (I never went back to work because it was such a wonderful/awesome/great time together that I didn't want it to end. hahaha!!!!!!!!) Thanks for the opportunity to share this. - Sene Servant Leadership Just wanted to share one of my most romantic moments. I have had many in 8 years of marriage but probably the most would have to be a few years ago when I was working full time. I worked in Human Resources, and this particular day I had been on my feet all day taking induction with a few new people and the course was all day. I came home and was really exhausted and my feet really hurt (and smelled too, I'd say). My husband came home about 1/2 an hour after me and [saw] my tiredness. I heard him running water in the bathroom while I was sorting things out in our room. He came into our room with a bucket of hot water and a small towel on his arm and got down on his knees and ever so gently washed my feet, I was so touched by this gesture and it made me understand a little of what Jesus did all those many years [ago], washing the feet of his disciples. We have been on a Family Life Conference and it was absolutely amazing. We have recommended to so many people since then. God bless you as you continue to encourage and bless our marriages! - Leao Our Children I have heard it said a number of times on Rhema, if a man wants to show his wife his love, he will love her children. When I cast my mind back over the last 10 years of my marriage, there have been many, many romantic moments - beach walks, picnics in our paddocks, love notes, flowers, a weekend away together, romantic dinners, and starlit walks up our country driveway after the children have gone to bed. But the time that pulls my heart-strings the most is the day that I called my daughter from my previous marriage ‘my’ daughter, and my husband turned to me and said, “She is not just your daughter, she is my daughter too. When I married you she became mine.” It is usually easy to love the children of your own blood, but it is another thing to take someone else's child into your heart and make them yours. Blended families have challenges - it is not the way God designed things to be. But I thank God for my husband, whom I met just after I had given my life to the Lord on June 30th, 11 years ago. - Karen The Letters My husband Chris and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary on Valentine's Day this year. It has been just the best 20 years of my life and I'm so blessed to have him as my husband. The most romantic thing he's done for me during that time is written to me each week of our marriage (yes, every single WEEK) telling me how much he loves me and about the things that have happened to us during the past 7 days. He started this on the day we were married and it has now grown into what we call the "Journal of our Marriage". He's written about the good times, sad and bad times, and even just the plain boring times. What makes this even more special is that we both work - he does permanent night shift and I work during the day, so we don't get to spend an awful lot of time together, but this is his way of making a few special moments where all he concentrates on is me and our life together. So often men have trouble expressing their love in verbal form, let alone written, but I feel so cherished as I read each one. Could anything be more romantic? - Michelle Random Romance One day I was down the road doing the banking when I was ‘grabbed’ and given a big smooch by my husband, only for him to immediately take off again. He had seen me walking along the street, stopped the car in the middle of the road and run over to me. I thought that was pretty romantic, but most romantic of all is each time my husband asks me to marry him – and yes, I would marry him again and again! - Sandra |
