Legends Award

Living Legends

The new “Living Legends” Award was launched at the 2006 Unleashed Events. The Award is to recognise men whose contribution to Promise Keepers and men generally has been so outstanding that it is legendary.

    The inaugural recipients were:

  • · John Dennison, Invercargill
  • · Kevin Marshall, Christchurch
  • · Gary Colville, Wellington
  • · Geoff Wiklund, Auckland

All these men have been involved as key organisers of Events. To give a better insight we profiled Geoff Wiklund:

Geoff pastors the church he planted 13 years ago, Eden AOG. He first got involved with Promise Keepers in 1995 when he was an assistant to Paul Subritzky at the first big Event in Auckland. Since then he has been a speaker, until recently was Board Chairman. He worked as the first Men’s Ministry Coach. Currently Geoff is responsible for Single Focus, assists with program, and is still on the Board. Geoff has been part of the DNA that has steered Promise Keepers to where it is today, being used powerfully by God to impact men.

Earlier this year Geoff’s heroic actions saved a girl caught in a rip at the West Coast surf beach, Maori Bay. At the church picnic two teenagers were being pulled out to sea. Despite being 21 days into a fast, Geoff and another man, Willie Leota went out to rescue the girls. Subsequently the men were bashed on to rocks by surf and suffered extensive cuts across their bodies.

Although painful, the healing was surprisingly fast for this type of injury. Geoff is pleased to still be a “Living” Legend!
