Spring 2008

Integrity has not gone out of style. Developing strong character is absolutely essential for individuals and the church. This is the basis of Promise Keepers - "Men of Integrity". That is what the Seven Promises stand for.
Recently the church has had more bad press with Todd Bentley and Michael Guglielmucci. Mike's case is bizarre but also shows where a life engrossed in porn can end up. The lie grew until it took over his life. It has been on TV more>> and now commented on by USA Christian media. more>>
Promise Keepers is about inspiring and equipping men to live a more godly life, with better behaviour a result of a heart being transformed. We don't want performance-based faith but our life should reflect well on the God we profess to follow. Let's move forward as part of His army and leave no man behind.

Final LEAVE NO MAN BEHIND Event - Auckland 10-11 Oct

Have you missed the Events so far? Then position yourself for God to bless you at the final LEAVE NO MAN BEHIND Event. This is how Martin describes it:

"Thanks team for an awesome Wellington event!!

"For the past couple of weeks, the Lord has been speaking to me about boldness, and positioning myself into places and situations where He can use or bless me. He also reminded me of the story in Luke 14 - a guy puts on a big banquet and invites all his friends - but they make all sorts of excuses why they can't come - too busy, costs too much, my wife won't let me. It was like the Lord was saying that He had prepared good things (a banquet) for me - and I certainly didn't want to be one of those guys making excuses not to come!
So that's why I came to Promise Keepers Wellington - and God met me there and reignited my love for Him, for worship, for my wife and children, for other men. And it's also why I signed up yesterday to be involved with a prison ministry - positioning myself to be used.
So I'm praying for my Auckland brothers, that they won't be making those excuses, that they will come, and that they will be blessed out of their socks. And may you all be strengthened and encouraged in your service to the men of this nation."

David Murrow: Speaking at Auckland, Cambridge and Christchurch

Well-known Alaskan-based author, David Murrow, is making his first visit to New Zealand.  David will be a guest speaker at the Auckland Promise Keepers Leave No Man Behind Men’s Event. He will also be speaking at several workshops.
His popular book, Why Men Hate Going to Church has been read by pastors and Men's Ministry leaders in New Zealand and his ideas about helping men thrive in church have caused many churches to re-think their practices and their approach to men.
There are a number of opportunities for you to benefit from David’s insights and global perspective.

Clergy Appreciation Month: October

At every Promise Keepers Event we have invited men to honour their pastors with applause and then to come forward and pray for them. In the USA, Focus on the Family has for many years promoted "Clergy Appreciation Month" in October. This is what they say:

"The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honour, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching" (1 Timothy 5:17).

The good news is that we can make a difference! Clergy Appreciation Month is one way we can counter the negative erosion in the lives of our spiritual leaders with the positive affirmation they need.
What can we do?

There are two ways to help your pastors and their families feel appreciated:

    * Figure out what you can do personally to recognise and honour these leaders. A simple card, an invitation to lunch, a promise to pray for them or an offer to babysit, wash a car or mow a lawn make wonderful statements.

    * Share the concept of CAM with others in your congregation and challenge them to join you in some kind of formal planning. You might consider a special service of affirmation, a potluck event or planting a tree in their honour. The sky is the limit!

Hope - Marina's story

Before we got married, I found out that I was pregnant.  Peter was the father and we were both very young; I was only 20.  My emotions were very up and down, I was scared and confused.   Would Peter leave me?  Would I be bringing [up] another child without a father? I knew what it was like to not know your father, as I myself had grown up in a so-called blended family.  We didn’t tell very many people about the pregnancy, but many of those who did know, said that we would never get ahead in life if we kept the baby, and that we should get rid of it. There was much pressure – and no discussion of any other options…. Our marriage became marked by periods of private depression, when I mourned the loss of our baby.  I was often distant, withdrawn.  Peter too was suffering but he dealt with it inside and didn’t want to show it.  He wanted to put it all behind us.  We had difficulty communicating.  I suffered emotionally and physically... more>>

Marina and Peter have 3 teenagers. They have been married 21 years. As a result of this experience Marina has started a website to help bring healing. more>> I was in the youth group at church with Marina. I am disappointed at the many stories I have heard of Christian girls being encouraged by their Christian parents and others to abort. We the church need to be a lot more supportive. John Subritzky

The WHISTLE Project: 40 DAYS PRAYER and FASTING about Abortion in NZ

Sue Rowe says:

Fasting in some way is important.  “Many of God’s choicest provisions for His people can be appropriated only by prayer and fasting combined.”  (Derek Prince)  Fasting is one way to humble ourselves before God as in 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Two comments that influenced me:
Pastor Dennis McLeod, Hamilton, said early 2003, “I believe the Lord said we won’t have revival until we deal with the abortion issue.”
Adrian Watts, Wellington, convenor of the Solemn Assembly, 2007, said at that time, “Every precious move of God over the last 30 years has been aborted, none has reached full term.”

There is a spiritual consequence over our nation of abortion in the natural.
We are announcing FULL TIME for abortion in NZ! The Lord said to me:
“Abortion is of national importance, your nation is at stake.  Like Joel, call a holy fast.”

Jesus Racing Team in the V8's at Bathurst

The Jesus Racing Team will officially launch the Jesus Supercar at Oran Park Raceway on 23 September 2008.
This is the team’s second year driving in the Yokohama V8 Ute series. Last year, driver Andrew Fisher finished fourth overall and was named Rookie of the Year.
2008 saw the Jesus Team join forces with Wollongong Performance Racing (WPR), who now look after the preparation, transport and running of the "Jesus. All about life" branded Ute.
Now the two organisations have joined forces again in order to attack Mt Panorama in the V8 Supercar Fujitsu Series in WPR’s ‘Daisy’, which is the ex-Paul Morris Motorsports Supercar. more>>

Here's how Andrew Fisher describes how he came up with the idea ....

"I was recently challenged as to whether I simply carry my Christianity as a back pack or whether I really pick up my cross each day. This caused me to think about why I am involved in motor racing and what impact I make for the Kingdom. With this in mind I thought it would be a great idea to put a fish on the back of the race car to show that I am a Christian! My wife challenged me and said, "well if you really want to make a statement why don't you promote  'Jesus. All about life' all over the car, that will let them know where you stand!" more>>
